Salve All,

do you use TrueCrypt to protect your valuable data from the dark arts of the governments and the evil hacker-whizzards?
Very good! Well done!

Are you thinking about to switch to VeraCrypt for "improved security reasons"?
Or have you lately switched to VeraCrypt and have some old TrueCrypt-encrypted containers you plan to open with VeraCrypt's TrueCrypt-Mode?

Well, don't scrap TrueCrypt, you might need it for compatibility reasons!

Unfortunately I just happend to come across a TrueCrypt container which can't be opened by VeraCrypt!
It’s a 1,2GB container which can easily decoded by TrueCrypt but can't by the TrueCrypt-compatibel mode of VeraCrypt.

VeraCrypt comes up with the following error message.

VeraCrypt Error Message

The reason for this failure is not yet clear and unfortunately we can't provide this container for further inspection (for obvious reasons).

But it is important to know that it is a good idea to keep the last version of TrueCrypt handy if you find yourself in the above described situation. Keep TrueCrypt installed and keep the install-file of the last version of TrueCrypt in your backups!

Best regards,

Howard
[UPDATE]
The container was generated with TrueCrypt 7.1 and VeraCrypt 1.13 (64-bit) hasn't been able to open the container
